Sony WH-1000XM3

Sony WH-1000XM3 Review

Boy were we excited when the Sony WH-1000XM3 were announced, on paper they promised to be one of the best headphones in the world – but do they live up to their promise?

We put them to the test to find out!

Setup/Connectivity

As a starter I connected them to my iPhone. It was very smooth and quick process that involved me downloading the Sony Headphones Connect app and with a long-press of the power button was able to sync the headphones to my phone via Bluetooth – I was listening to music within three minutes of having them out of the box so there are certainly no set-up obstacles here.

I have also paired them with my laptop and the processes was as straight-forward as it was on the phone. In over 50 hours of listening on my laptop, only once has the connection dropped – so in terms of stability they are very good. I have over 100 hours of pairing my my iPhone and as yet they have never lost connection.

Comfort

I think it is fair to say that they are not the lightest headphones on the market but once you get them on your head this does not impact negatively on the comfort.

The headband extends to allow you to get them settled comfortably over your ears. They have a nice cushioned feel around the ears that also helps to prevent them sliding or bouncing around when walking.

I have happily worn them for 3-4 hours straight at work, the only side affect being slightly warm ears.

Sound Quality

The sound quality of these headphones is up there with the best. Whether you like a heavy bass or subtle acoustic they tick every box.

The Sony HD Noise Cancelling Processor is clearly a big part of what makes the sound quality of these headphones so strong. They deliver crystal clear audio and with noise cancelling on you will get zero background noise.

I really cannot find anything to fault in the sound quality of these, even at higher volumes there is no degredation in performance.

Key Features

There are so many features packed into the Sony WH-1000XM3, here are some of the highlights:

  • Sony HD Noise Cancelling
  • Hands-free Calling with HD Voice
  • Touch Controls: Can control pretty much everything using the swipe controls
  • Quick-Charge: 10 min charge can deliver 5 hours playback
  • Battery Life: 30 hours continuous playback
  • Voice Assistants: Alexa & Google Assistant
  • Includes headphone cable and airplane adapter
  • Stylish Carry Case

Price

These headphones are generally available online for approx £200 which is a competitive price for what are some of the best headphones available on the market today.

Our Verdict

Score: 9.75 / 10

Pretty much a perfect score, we have deducted a small number of points due to the weight of the headphones which we feel could be a little lighter.

All round they are some of the best on the market and we highly recommend them.
